How the weight is worked out

Sections: weight per metre from Steel Optimizer's section library (IPE, HEA, HEB, UPN, UB, UC, W, C, angles, SHS, RHS, CHS and more) × length.
Plates: thickness (mm) × length (m) × width (m) × 7.85 = kg.

7.85 comes from the density of carbon steel, 7,850 kg/m³; change it under Settings for another metal. Rolling tolerances and coatings change the real weight slightly.
