Weight per square metre, per sheet, and a calculator for any size
A 2 mm steel plate weighs 15.7 kg/m² (3.22 lb/ft²). A 1220 × 2440 mm (4 × 8 ft) sheet weighs 46.7 kg.
| Sheet size | Area | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| 1000 × 2000 mm | 2.000 m² | 31.4 kg |
| 1220 × 2440 mm4 × 8 ft | 2.977 m² | 46.7 kg |
| 1250 × 2500 mm | 3.125 m² | 49.1 kg |
| 1500 × 3000 mm | 4.500 m² | 70.7 kg |
| 1524 × 3048 mm5 × 10 ft | 4.645 m² | 72.9 kg |
Each sheet: 46.7 kg
Weight (kg) = length (m) × width (m) × thickness (mm) × 7.85
For a 1220 × 2440 mm sheet: 1.22 × 2.44 × 2 × 7.85 = 46.7 kg. The factor 7.85 is the density of steel, 7,850 kg/m³ (the unit mass of steel in EN 1993-1-2 §3.2.2), for each millimetre of thickness.
Nominal weights. Real plates differ slightly because of rolling tolerances on thickness (for example EN 10029 or ASTM A6/A6M), and galvanizing or paint adds weight. Stainless steel and aluminium have different densities.
