Weight per square metre, per sheet, and a calculator for any size
A 130 mm steel plate weighs 1020.5 kg/m² (209.01 lb/ft²). A 2000 × 6000 mm sheet weighs 12,246.0 kg.
| Sheet size | Area | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| 1500 × 6000 mm | 9.000 m² | 9,184.5 kg |
| 2000 × 6000 mm | 12.000 m² | 12,246.0 kg |
| 2500 × 6000 mm | 15.000 m² | 15,307.5 kg |
| 2000 × 12000 mm | 24.000 m² | 24,492.0 kg |
| 2500 × 12000 mm | 30.000 m² | 30,615.0 kg |
Each sheet: 12,246.0 kg
Weight (kg) = length (m) × width (m) × thickness (mm) × 7.85
For a 2000 × 6000 mm sheet: 2 × 6 × 130 × 7.85 = 12,246.0 kg. The factor 7.85 is the density of steel, 7,850 kg/m³ (the unit mass of steel in EN 1993-1-2 §3.2.2), for each millimetre of thickness.
Nominal weights. Real plates differ slightly because of rolling tolerances on thickness (for example EN 10029 or ASTM A6/A6M), and galvanizing or paint adds weight. Stainless steel and aluminium have different densities.
