Plan every bar from 6 m or 12 m stock, straight from your Excel or Tekla list
Steel Optimizer works out how to cut your beams, columns, channels, angles and hollow sections from stock bars with the least waste, and how many bars of each section to buy.
How it works
Set the stock bar. 12 m by default, or the length your supplier delivers, and the saw kerf.
Add the parts. Upload the Excel, Tekla or Advance Steel list as it is (profile, length and quantity), or type them in and pick the section from the library.
Press Optimize. You get a cutting plan for every bar, the bars to buy per section, the total weight, the waste and a paint area.
What it handles
Real exports. Cover sheets, subtotal rows and mixed section and plate lists are handled for you.
A large section library: European (IPE, HEA, HEB, UPN), British (UB, UC), American (W, C, MC, HSS), Japanese, Chinese, Russian and Indian sections, plus angles and hollow sections.
Weight and paint area: the weight of every section and a paint area worked out on the safe side, for coating quantities.
Reports: PDF and Excel in five languages.
The stock length makes the difference
Take 6 parts of 3,800 mm. From 12 m bars, each bar gives 3 parts (3 × 3,800 = 11,400 mm plus two saw cuts), so you need 2 bars: 24 m of steel for 22.8 m of parts, 5 % waste. From 6 m bars, each bar gives only one part, so you need 6 bars: 36 m of steel and 36.7 % waste.
Questions
Which length does it take from a Tekla list?
The part length in the list. Make sure the export gives the part or cut length, not the member or assembly length: here is how to check.
Can I set my own kerf?
Yes. Enter the kerf of your saw in millimetres.
Try it on your own list. Upload the Excel or Tekla file and see the cutting plan, the bars to buy and the waste in seconds.
